 Town Councillors
 
  Ashbourne's Town Councillors are unpaid and undertake their time and work on a voluntary basis, the Mayor does however, recieve aid with expenses whilst carrying out duties during the year.

What is the Role of a Town Councillor?.... There are currently thirteen members of the Ashbourne Town Council. The full Council meet once a month, usually on the 3rd Tuesday of every month, this takes place at the Town Hall at 8.00pm. The meeting is open to any member of the public, however, only residents on the Ashbourne Electoral Role are permitted to ask questions.

Within the Town Council there are three Committee's:-

Finance & Town Hall - This Committee meet on the first Monday of every month. It comprises of eight Councillors, including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The Committee look and recommend to Full Council, any decisions regarding payments, or improvements to the Town Hall. They help keep Committees within their allocated budgets, and are also responsible for setting the estimates and the precept for the following financial year, after approval, this is sent to the District Council.

Planning - This Committee meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month. It comprises of seven Councillors, including the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. Last Year the Committee looked at over 144 separate planning applications, subsequently sending their recommendations to the District Council for inclusion in their officer's report. Ashbourne Planning Committee is a consultee only, the final decision lies with the District Council

Amenities - This Committee meet on the first Tuesday of the month, immediately after the planning meeting. It comprises of six Councillors, including the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. This Committee deal with all other Council business, including events that are held during the year, whether organised by the Council itself, or in partnership with other organisations.
