The Historic Georgian Derbyshire Market Town of Ashbourne lies in the lovely valley of the Henmore on the southern edge of the Peak District. A panoramic view of the town can be seen from the brow of Derby Road. Aptly named the "Gateway to Dovedale", Ashbourne provides a spring board to the Derbyshire Dales and beautiful hills in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Architectually, Ashbourne has a rich legacy of Georgian houses and Church Street, a wide and elegant street, is considered to be the finest street of Georgian buildings in the whole of Derbyshire. Looking west down Church Street the view is dominated by St.Oswald's Church which celebrated the 750th anniversary of its foundation in 1995.
Ashbourne's Memorial Gardens have been extended, and now include a recreational area for children and large playing fields which cater for soccer, rugby, cricket, tennis and bowls. A further extension of this leisure area is the Fishpond Meadow. This is a most attractive wildlife and conservation area which surrounds the "Old Hall Boating Lake". Well laid out paths make a walk around the Fishpond Meadow easy and enjoyable for all and benches and picnic tables have been laid out to encourage tourists to spend some time here.

Town Guides are available from the local Tourist Information Centre, Telephone (01335) 34366 detailing a wide range of information and facts about Ashbourne, including places to stay, eat and drink, as well as lots of useful information about the town and on places to visit in the surrounding area.
